Respiratory intervention shown to save lives

Research by Dalhousie Medical School and the Emergency Health Service (EHS) has shown that an innovative method of providing oxygen in an ambulance to those in respiratory distress leads to fewer deaths and reduces the need to insert a tube into the patient’s airway.

Dalhousie University appoints Canada’s first research chair in pediatric epilepsy

Maritime children with epilepsy will benefit from the appointment of Dr. Michael Esser to Dalhousie University’s William Dennis Chair in Pediatric Epilepsy Research. Dr. Esser, a pediatric neurologist and pharmacologist, will help to achieve a greater understanding of epilepsy and reduce the stigma attached to the disorder, which affects about 9,500 people in Nova Scotia alone. It’s the first chair of its kind in Canada.

Dalhousie pain researchers show qigong relieves fibromyalgia symptoms

Two Dalhousie Medical School pain researchers have confirmed that a form of qigong, CFQ qigong, relieves pain and other symptoms of fibromyalgia in an open trial and is worthy of further study in a controlled trial.
